Walter "Dave" Hoffman

Walter D. Hoffman Roanoke- Walter “Dave” Hoffman, 66, of Roanoke, IL, formerly of Forsyth/Decatur, passed away at 5:06 pm on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at OSF St. Francis Medical Center in Peoria. He was born on July 8, 1943 in Decatur a son of John and Margaret Armstrong Hoffman. Dave’s mother passed away young and John married Clara Fore. She was his mother. He married Sandra Williams-Herbst on August 25, 2001 at the Roanoke United Methodist Church. She survives. Also surviving are his five children, Ellen Jansen of Champaign, Becky (Mike) Younker of Forsyth, Katie (Dean) Lynch of Decatur, Colby Hoffman of Mount Zion, and Megan Hoffman of Forsyth; three step children, Michelle Herbst, Chris (Nate) Fehr and Mike (Becky) Herbst all of Roanoke; his grandchildren and great grandchildren, Lindsay, Jessica, Kim, Kaleb, Courtney, Trent, Kendahl, Lauren, Kannon and Zane; his step grandchildren and step great grandchildren, Amanda, Nick, Josh, Sam, Devin, Ian, Sydney and Toren; his brothers and sisters, Jerry (Charlotte) Hoffman of Blue Mound, Alan (Joyce) Hoffman of Maroa, Mary Margaret (George) Stambaugh of Missouri, Larry Wayne (Rose) Hoffman of Decatur, Bill (Lee) Fore of Tennessee, and Sharon Booker of Texas; and many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his mother, father, step mother, two brothers, Tom and Ed and an infant brother and sister, Phillip Dean and Linda Jean Hoffman. Dave was very active in every community that he lived in. He served on the Forsyth Village Board as a trustee for many years and was on the Roanoke Festival Committee for 14 years. He was also involved with Relay For Life. Dave was a member of The Roanoke and Forsyth United Methodist Churches and the Illinois Heartland Emmaus. He was the owner and operator of Dave’s Custom Cabinets in Forsyth from 1973 through the late 1980’s. Dave was an avid horseback rider and was involved with many trail riding groups. He was also an organ and tissue donor. He was a loving husband, dad, grandpa, and great grandpa who will be great missed. Dave never knew a stranger. Funeral services will be held at 11:00 am on Thursday, April 1, 2010 at Roanoke United Methodist Church. Rev. Kenneth Sloan-Couch will officiate. Visitation will be held from 5:00 to 8:00 pm on Wednesday, March 31, 2010 at Knapp-Johnson-Harris Funeral Home in Roanoke. Cremation rites will be accorded following services. Memorial contributions may be made in Dave’s name to the Roanoke United Methodist Church, Relay for Life, or the Illinois Heartland Emmaus.
